BMBF Project "TeamCom"

TeamCom - IMS- or P2P-based Service Provisioning and Creation for Customer Tailored Communication Processes

Description of Project:

Currently in the evolution of communication networks towards Next Generation Networks (NGN) two different competing directions are emerging: on the one hand a realisation with a central network intelligence, based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), which is known from the mobile communication networks, and on the other hand the Peer-to-Peer-Technology, presented by the proprietary software Skype or the P2P SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) based technology, which is standardised at the moment. Both solutions have different advantages and disadvantages in costs and technologies for network operators, service providers, manufacturers and customers.

Besides the development of a new service requires an extensive knowledge both on the technical aspects and the details of the workflows. This situation causes a delayed and difficult implementation.

Easy to use, cost-efficient and fast provision of services, especially for B2B communication, should be obtained in the following quadruplicate approach for the first-time.

  • Valuation of IMS and/or P2P communication
  • Estimation of reusable communication elements
  • Realisation of communication elements via a Service Creation Environment
  • Cooperation of Application Servers

These approaches should be realised in following steps:

  1. Development of criterias to choose IMS and/or P2P based communication
  2. Deriving reusable communication elements from existing B2B workflows
  3. Realisation of these communication elements via a generic Service Creation Environment
  4. Using of existing partial solutions via cooperation of Application Servers
  5. Implementation of prototypes to verify the results of step 1 - 4
  6. Providing precise recommendations how to optimise service creation and provision including configuration of devices in telecommunication networks, which support IMS and/or P2P solutions. Also the results are estimated from a technical and from commercial point of view in cooperation with the project partners with involvement of the developed prototypes.
